How the visa works

Parents lodge the 143 application and join a first-in-first-out queue. The initial fee ($5,040) is paid at lodgement; the final fee ($43,600 per applicant) is due upon processing completion. An Assurance of Support bond must be lodged with the Commonwealth Bank for 10 years ($10,000 for one parent; $14,000 for two parents).

Can I apply?

Child in Australia

Must have at least one child or children living in Australia as a permanent resident or Australian citizen.

Family balance test

At least half of your children or stepchildren must be settled permanent residents or Australian citizens.

Sponsor requirements

The child sponsor must be a settled permanent resident or Australian citizen and demonstrate ability to provide support through Assurance of Support and accommodation.

Health & character

Standard health and character requirements apply. Exceptions may still allow grant.

Government debts

Any outstanding debts to the Australian government must be repaid or subject to a repayment agreement.
