Migration can be complex and stressful. Our team has many years in the Australian immigration industry. We stay up to date with immigration policy regulations, which are continually changing and evolving, and ensure you submit all necessary documents correctly. If you have previously had an application rejected, we can represent you in the ART (Administrative Review Tribunal).
Processing times vary by visa type and are set by the Department of Home Affairs. The times below are general guides — your actual timeline depends on application completeness, health and character checks, and current government queue volumes.
| Visa Type | Typical Processing Time | Key Variable |
|---|---|---|
| Partner Visa (820/801) | 12 – 24 months | Relationship evidence quality |
| Skilled Visa (189/190/491) | 6 – 18 months | Points score & state nomination |
| Employer Sponsored (482) | 2 – 6 months | Sponsorship approval status |
| Parent Visa (143/173) | 3 – 10+ years | Queue-based — apply early |
| Student Visa (500) | 4 – 8 weeks | Health checks & CoE |
| ART Appeal | 6 – 18 months | Tribunal workload |
| Citizenship | 12 – 24 months | Residency period met |
Incomplete applications and missing documents are the most common cause of delays. Our lawyers review every application thoroughly before lodgement to minimise requests for further information (RFIs) from the Department.

Errors, missing evidence, or selecting the wrong visa subclass are among the most common reasons applications are refused — and a refusal can affect future eligibility. Our lawyers ensure your application is correctly prepared and lodged the first time.
Immigration lawyers are qualified solicitors admitted to practise law in Australia, regulated by the relevant State Law Society. Migration agents are registered with MARA but are not lawyers and cannot provide legal advice or represent you in court. Reliance Law Group are Australian lawyers — if your matter involves an ART appeal, Federal Court application, or ministerial intervention, you need a lawyer, not a migration agent.
A refusal is not the end of the road. Depending on the visa type and reason for refusal, you may be able to lodge a merits review with the Administrative Review Tribunal (ART), apply for a different visa subclass, or seek ministerial intervention. Time limits apply — typically 21 days from the refusal decision. Contact us immediately if you have received a refusal notice.
We offer transparent fixed-fee pricing — you will know the full cost of our services before we begin, set out clearly in a written fee agreement. Government visa application charges are separate and set by the Department of Home Affairs. Book a free consultation and we will provide a full fee estimate for your specific situation.
In many cases, yes — but it depends on the visa subclass and conditions of your bridging visa. The Partner visa (subclass 820) is lodged onshore and a bridging visa will generally be issued automatically while your application is processed. Other visa types have specific requirements about your status at time of application. We recommend seeking advice before lodging to ensure your status is protected.
The Administrative Review Tribunal (ART) — formerly the AAT — reviews visa refusal and cancellation decisions made by the Department of Home Affairs. If your application has been refused, you generally have 21 days to lodge a review. Our lawyers regularly represent clients before the ART and have a strong record of successful appeals.

These guys know their stuff! Matthew & Ali listened to me, and gave me their trust to handle my complicated partner visa query. They did not disappoint, and they kept their word as my visa was granted as they promised it would be. Highly recommended 👍
